SOLO PIANO Burk solo performances have included everything from creative reworkings of Bach, to excursions inside the piano, to dramatic performances of his many memorable original compositions. He has three self-released solo recordings, Progressions and Digressions, Nearly Lost, and Transition to Change. His first widely available solo disc is The Way In (2006, 482 Music).

DUO Burk has regularly performed duo with legendary drummer/visionary Bob Moses, John Tchicai, one of the true originators of the avant-garde movement, Michael Buckley, Ireland’s most internationally active tenor saxophonist as well as the great Italian drummer Roberto Gatto.

LUNAR TUNES pairs Burk with legendary drummer/percussionist Bob Moses in a collaboration that explores the possibilities of free improvisation. The duo has one as-yet-unreleased CD.

The GREG BURK TRIO reinvigorates the classic piano trio format by combining the beauty and simplicity of melodic playing with the creative spontaneity of collective improvisation. Burk recorded in this configuration with bassist Jonathan Robinson and drummer/percussionist Bob Moses on 2002's Checking In (Soul Note), and again with Robinson and Boston-based drummer Luther Gray on 2007’s Ivy Trio (482 Music).

The Greg Burk Trio with Steve Swallow and Bob Moses uses the framework of Burk's compositions as a jumping off point for inspired excursions into free improvisation. The trio released its first CD, Nothing, Knowing, on 482 Music in August 2005.

Operetta (mp3)

The GREG BURK QUARTET builds on the foundation of Burk's trio with new extended compositions that incorporate tenor and soprano saxophone and allow for longer improvised explorations of sounds and colors. This group, with saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi, bassist Jonathan Robinson, and drummer Gerald Cleaver, is featured on Carpe Momentum (2004) and Berlin Bright (2007) both released by historic Soul Note label.

BOUNCING BACH features Burk arrangements of Bach pieces for a jazz quartet featuring guitar, piano, bass, and drums. The group performed at the 1999 Ascoli Piceno International Bach Festival and has recorded one as-yet-unreleased CD.
